Use of Hard Narcotics Up

Alcohol use is down in this Region compared to 2001, however stronger
narcotics such as ecstasy, methamphetamine, crack and cocaine are up.
The data is part of a 2005 survey of students in grade 7 to 12 across
Northwestern Ontario.
Lee Sieswerday of the Thunder Bay District Health Unit released the
results and says the use of most hard narcotics doubled across Northwestern
Ontario.
Several youth groups, peer mentor programs and impaired driving
initiatives are now in place to help turn around the statistics.
