The Northwestern Health Unit is warning local residents of a shortage of vaccines that aren’t covered by OHIP.
Vaccines used to treat Hepatitis A and B won’t be available until the end of the year, while the Rabies product might not be available until next June.
Officials say the shortage will mostly affect travelers and those who need the immunizations for their work.
It doesn’t impact publicly funded vaccines such as rabies shots for animal bites, school-based Hep-B vaccines or high risk vaccines.
Officials add the shortages are temporary and are being felt across Canada, noting the vaccines aren’t available at area pharmacies.
