It is one of Canada’s most celebrated military victories and it will be recognized in Dryden Wednesday night.
A 101st Battle of Vimy Ridge Anniversary ceremony is being held at the Legion.
Spokesperson James Ditchfield says the World War I event shaped the history of our country.
He says the success by Canadian soldiers basically brought the war to a close much sooner than anticipated.
Ditchfield says our country managed to take the hill and force a change in the German defensive tactics that brought the war to an end within two years.
Ditchfield says it was the biggest single victory in the war for Canada to date, noting we managed to do something that no one else was able to do.
The four divisions of the Canadian Corps, fighting together for the first time, attacked the ridge from April 9th to 12th, 1917.
Nearly 3,600 Canadian soldiers were killed during the battle.
