A lot of information was shared at a two day conference in Dryden addressing violence against women.
The New Starts Women’s Shelter in Red Lake hosted the event, with over 95-people in attendance.
Organizer Jennifer Chamberlain says the goal was to promote the services that are available in area communities to help those in need.
She says it was also meant to share best practices to address the problem.
Chamberlain says violence against women and young girls is still happening in our region and not a lot has been done to reduce the numbers.
She notes the best way to fix the problem is to talk about it.
Chamberlain says the key is reducing the secrecy and shame behind violence against women and encouraging people to come out and get help.
She adds there is a lot more talk now about VAW, especially with the introduction of the “Me Too Movement”.
