The Wabigoon Fire Department has caught the attention of Canadian TV personality Jenny Jones.
This year, the London, Ontario native set up a Foundation to provide $50,000 in support to volunteer fire teams in her home province.
Wabigoon Fire Prevention Officer Richard Wetelainen says they have received $3,000 to purchase new dependable batteries to power their emergency equipment.
Wetelainen says the grant will also help secure state-of-the-art lighting for their vehicles and the highway during an emergency call.
Wetelainen stresses most of their calls are for highway rescue, so it’s important to have the proper lighting in place and to be highly visible.
He says Jenny Jones called them in person to pass along the good news, noting she was grateful for their work in keeping area residents safe.
Wetelainen says this is like giving a city department a million dollars.
