Warning From Health Unit

The Northwestern Health Unit is asking residents to thoroughly wash and cook green onions imported from Mexico.
Imported scallions caused an outbreak of Hepatitis A in 3 American states earlier this month and Public Health Inspector Al Mathers says there is a ban in place however some may have come into the country prior to the ban.
Mathers adds all retailers across the District have been notified of the green onions in question.
He says there are no reported cases in Canada but if you are planning a trip to Mexico in the next few months, you should stay away from green onions altogether.
