Water Restrictions in Place

From floods to drought in Northwestern Ontario.
A number of municipalities are dealing with a shortage in their water supply.
Dryden and Atikokan have issued water restricition notices because of strains on the water treatement plants.
Brad Johns is Director of Public Works for the City of Dryden.
Johns says residents who live at even number homes may water on even numbered calendar days, and vise-versa.
He adds a report will go to city council Monday, asking that the restriction remain in place until September.
Johns hints that the calendar-style policy may become a regular requirment in the future if council agrees.
In Atikokan, the situation appears to be a little more serious.
Township Councilor Garry McKinnon says all non-essential use of water is restricted.
This includes washing vehicles and watering lawns and gardens at all times.
The policy is in place until further notice because of production problems at the water treatment plant.
McKinnon says the restriction is also in place because of the dry conditions and the threat of forest fires.
MacKinnon says the township is only getting about 20-percent output at the treatment plant.
