One of the first requests for the new Council in Dryden will be made Monday night as staff are asking for a hike in water and sewer rates.
The request is a 5% increase effective December 28th.
According to a staff report there has only been one year with a rate hike since 2012.
That was a 10% increase applied in 2014.
The report cites reserve values in the 2012 and 2015 financial plans that either didn’t exist or didn’t materialize.
The Water Reserve for needed upgrades had a 2017 year-end balance of $139,000.
The Sewer/Wastewater Reserve had a 2017 year-end balance of $323,000.
Both funds were established in 2016.
The City is reporting a $223,083 shortfall in the water and sewer department in 2016, $336,116 in 2017 and a projected $236,496 shortfall in 2018.
