Ways To Quit Smoking

The annual report from the Cancer Advocacy Coalition of Canada suggests more smokers might quit if insurance companies covered products that help them do so.
Rob Button is a pharmacist at Pharmasave in Dryden, and he says there are quite a few options already on the table such as Champix, lozenges, gum and patches.
Button adds that Champix seems to be the most popular of the bunch, and that people under the Ontario Trillium Plan, Ontario Works and seniors usually get it at a much lower cost.
All pharmacists in Ontario can prescribe Champix over the counter, it’s just a matter of how much you will have to pay for it.
Button says it usually works out to costing the same as if you were smoking a pack of cigarettes a day.
Champix works by blocking the effects of nicotine and reduces the craving.
However if that’s not an option, Button says there are also great resources at the Northwestern Health Unit if you are looking to quit.
