The worst may be over in Manitoba, where wide spread flooding has been taking place in the western and central regions, especially near Portage La Prairie.
Infrastructure minister Steve Ashton says all the flood prevention measures taken in recent years is keeping damage to private property to a minimum.
Ashton says it’s possible there could be a second crest on the Assiniboine River near Brandon in the next few days, otherwise waters likely peaked in most areas Wednesday night.
He says there have been reports of basement flooding but notes there’s been no major damage to private property.
Ashton adds evacuation orders in some areas are in place as a precautionary measure.
He says while flood waters have been high, they still don’t match levels seen three years ago.
