Weyehaeuser Trying To Secure Long Term Wood Supply

The Kenora Weyehaeuser Mill is focused on securing a local wood supply.

Talks are underway on a tri-lateral agreement with area First Nations.

Public Affairs Manager Wayne Roznowsky says it’s vital to the mills future.

Roznowsky notes they need to supply 50% of their wood from the Whiskey Jack Forest in order to remain viable.

He says costs continue to go up as they are chasing wood across the region and Manitoba.

The mill currently spends over $1-million a year secure wood as far away as Ignace.
