It is something most Drydea-area residents have never seen, nor likely to see again.
Pillars of light filled the night sky this week, that seemed to originate near the ground and beamed toward the sky.
Many CKDR listeners called to tell us about the phenomenon.
Were they spotlights or perhaps U-F-Os?
We spoke to Dr. Fred Hopper, a physics professor at Lakehead University.
Hopper says the light pillars are caused by ground-based light reflecting off a specific type of ice crystal in the atmosphere.
He adds the occurance originates right below the sun.
If anyone in the area managed to snap a photo or shoot video of the pillars of light this week, Dr. Hopper would like to see them.
Give CKDR a call, and we will tell you how to get in touch with him.
