Frustration is starting to grow among local political leaders over the delay of twinning Highway 17 between Kenora and the Manitoba boundary.
It was bumper to bumper traffic and delays on the TransCanada over the long weekend.
Dave Canfield is the President of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association and he says the project has to get moving and it has to get moving fast.
Canfield notes they have been waiting since 2009 when the twinning announcement was first made.
He notes the northwest is in desperate need of the project, but stresses it’s also beneficial for the provincial economy.
Canfield says a twinned highway will give drivers somewhere to move in the result of slowing down for a crash or an emergency vehicle.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford has stated the project is his top priority, while Kenora MP Bob Nault believes it may move forward shortly.
