Working Together Key In The Event Of Disaster

It’s important that everyone remains on the same page when dealing with an emergency.

That message from Jay Shaw, Assistant Chief of Emergency Management for the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service.

Speaking in Dryden, Shaw stressed the importance of having local crews properly trained.

He says the old adage is “you don’t want to shake hands at the disaster and introduce everybody”.

Shaw says you want all your team players and members all working together well before the disaster ever happens.

He adds the culture is changing as emergency personnel now must deal with social media.

Shaw notes it’s important that emergency crews remain on the same page in the event of false information getting out on social media.
