Atikokan is one of many Regional communities still waiting to hear if a new Youth Detention Facility will be built in Northwestern Ontario.
However, the Liberal Government has not made any decision, nor is likely to make one anytime soon.
In a letter addressed to Atikokan Council, the Minister responsible for Community Safety and Correctional Services stated that the Government is conducting a comprehensive review of the entire Ministry, including the viability of Correctional Facilities.

Brown says the Grits have not said that the initiative will be scrapped and he hopes some sort of decision will be made by the end of the winter.
