Zach Willms Sets New Wins Record In Miners Victory

The Red Lake Miners have clinched second place in the SIJHL standings and a first round bye.

Zach Willms made 61-saves, including 25 in the third period, to lead the Miners to a come from behind 3-2 shootout victory over Dryden GM last night.

The Ice Dogs took a 2-1 lead in the final frame off of goals from Dylan Winsor and Evan Pakkala, before Morgan Venne tied things with 3:51 left to play.

Noah Kwasny scored a first period goal for Red Lake, while Shaye Sommerfeld had the shootout winner.

The victory was the 52nd overall for Willms in the league, which establishes a new SIJHL record for career wins, surpassing the 51 that current Buffalo Sabres NHL netminder Carter Hutton and Josh Mrakic had in their time in the league.
