New census data indicates those aged 65 and up, make up
to 16.2 percent of Kenora’s population, up from 15.8
percent in 2001.
The 2006 census also shows those from the baby boomer
generation account for 32.5% of the population of Kenora.
Statistics Canada Spokesman Jim McKibbon says there’s a
reason why some Northwestern Ontario communities have an
older population than others.

Seniors are also making up a larger proportion of the
population in Dryden, Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, Machin,
Pickle Lake, Ignace, and Ear Falls.
The population in Red Lake and Sioux Lookout is getting
younger with more baby busters and children of boomers
living in the 2-communities.
