A Committee set up to examine nuisance deer concerns in Dryden is out with a survey.
The public is asked to answer ten questions including should taxpayer dollars be spent to address any potential deer problems.
Chief Administrative Officer Ernie Remillard admits the Committee has raised concerns surrounding safety as well frustration on spending hundreds to thousands of dollars on flowers which the deer love to eat.
Remillard notes they want to receive the proper data on the deer situation to determine what others are thinking.
Following the survey, the Committee will deliver a list of recommendations to Council.
Here are the questions of the Deer Committee survey:
1. Do you believe there is a problem with urban Deer in Dryden?
2. Are you aware of Citizens that feed the Deer?
3. Do you want the Urban Deer Population removed from Dryden?
4. Do you believe that City Council should be responsible for addressing Urban Deer Concerns?
5. Are you willing to use tax dollars to address any identified Urban Deer Concern?
6. What are your main concerns regarding the urban Deer population?
A) Destruction of property
B) Deer attacking people
C) Deer transmitting diseases
D) Deer as a traffic hazard
E) No concerns
7. Would you report someone illegally feeding the deer within the City of Dryden?
8. Would you be willing to appear as a witness in court should someone be charged with feeding the deer under the by-law and willing to follow through with the Process?
9. Would you like the deer population in Dryden reduced?
10. Are you aware that a by-law currently exists to hunt on a certain sized property within the City limits?
