Once again, Canadians were given the short end of the stick for the 2021 nominations of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. It’s a shame really.
There are so many great Canadian bands that have yet to be recognized for their contributions to Rock, and many Canadians believed it was time for The Guess Who to see their induction. The R&R H.O.F. committee apparently didn’t think so.
Here’s the nominations for the 2021 induction:
- Mary J. Blige
- Kate Bush
- Devo
- Foo Fighters
- Go-Go’s
- Iron Maiden
- Jay-Z
- Chaka Khan (Been nominated seven times so far.)
- Carole King (This one’s weird, as she’s already been inducted for her songwriting)
- Fela Kuti
- LL Cool J (Like Chaka, this is his sixth nomination.)
- New York Dolls
- Rage Against the Machine
- Todd Rundgren
- Tina Turner (Also technically already in, with Ike.)
- Dionne Warwick
Not a single Canadian nomination to be seen. Some rappers are being credited for their contributions, but I’ve personally never understood why Jay-Z or LL Cool J could be included. Seems a little out of place.
