Encouraging words from the Prime Minister for our area to keep up the work against COVID-19.
Justin Trudeau joined Acadia Broadcasting’s John Ongaro Monday morning.
When Ongaro noted the rising case load numbers across the country, the Prime Minister stated what everyone has been doing locally has kept people safe.
“People being really careful about when they travel, and being thoughtful about potential community transmissions, that we haven’t seen significant challenges recently.”
Trudeau also touched on the closure of the border with the U.S., that it will stay closed on a month by month basis.
Trudeau revealed this is what works best for both countries in dealing with COVID-19.
“There’s also a technical tweek, where if the U.S. wanted to close the border for more than just one month, they’d need a higher degree of authorization through Congress, whereas [in the current format] they can just roll over month to month, in a fairly straight forward way.”
The Prime Minister insists very minimal amount of the virus is crossing the border.
Trudeau added globally, it appears our country is doing its part in the fight against the deadly virus.
He states has Canada signed deals with six potential vaccine makers.
“We’re also part of an international financing facility, that delivers vaccines to countries that participate, as long as we’re also buying doses for the developing world, which we’ve happily done,” said Trudeau.
The Prime Minister adds the government has a variety of vaccine candidates lined up, along with securing hundreds of millions of doses.
