More Government Funding For Local Internet Service

The federal and provincial governments are spending a total of $148 million to connect more local homes to the internet.

The money will bring reliable, high-speed internet to over 11,200 rural households in Northwestern Ontario.

The funding is on top of programs already underway to improve broadband service.

A number of First Nations communities will be benefiting along with Sioux Lookout, Ear Falls, Red Lake, Ignace, Pickle Lake and Vermilion Bay.

The government of Ontario is hoping to have 100% of homes connected to high speed internet by 2025.

Right now the province is about 40% of the way to achieve 100% connectivity.
