A retired Dryden teacher is hoping to give Syrian refugees a warm welcome.
Gerry Powell is asking residents to make, knit or purchase a toque for incoming refugees.
Powell was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show Friday to talk about the 25,000 toque campaign.
She says all toques will be collected and shipped to a welcoming centre in Montreal in mid-January.
Powell notes she will take any new toque, any size and any style.
She’s hoping folks include a small note on their toque and all donations can be dropped off at the Dryden Library or Sew Many Things on King Street.
Powell adds cash donations will also be accepted.
She says toques symbolize new life and also provides warmth.
Powell points out that more than 50% of the refugees are children.
