Acadia Broadcasting Acquires Q104

A bit of a change to the media landscape in northwestern Ontario.

Acadia Broadcasting, which is the parent company of CKDR, has announced it has come to an agreement with Golden West to acquire Q104.

The deal still needs the approval of the CRTC so no timeline for the completion of the agreement has been given.

Q104 services the Dryden, Kenora and Sioux Lookout areas.

Chris Pearson, President of Acadia Broadcasting Corporation, is pleased with the opportunity to acquire the station and its repeater transmitters, which increases Acadia’s localized presence in the region.

“We appreciate Golden West Broadcasting Ltd. providing Acadia with this opportunity in northwestern Ontario. This will enhance our ability to serve these communities with local content,” says Pearson.

Q104 first went on air in November 2004.

Golden West took ownership of the station in 2010.

“We have enjoyed serving Kenora with a community-based radio service for the past ten years,” says Elmer Hildebrand, Chief Executive Officer of Golden West. “During this time, we improved CKQV’s radio service and also launched a community portal KenoraOnline. After ten years of service in the area, we are pleased to have reached a Purchase Agreement with Acadia and that pending CRTC approval, Acadia will continue to provide a diversity of programming and local content.”

Upon approval and the satisfaction of all other conditions, it is anticipated that closing of the transaction will occur within 45 days of receipt of CRTC approval.
