February Much Colder And Snowier Than Normal

To no-one’s surprise, February was both snowier and colder than usual.

We had over 82 centimetres of snowfall.

Our norm is just 17.9 centimetres.

David Phillips from Environment Canada says the amount of snow we had was unusual.

“It doesn’t snow much when it’s cold. Well, February didn’t pay attention to that. So where did that moisture come from? Well it must have just come from the south. It got in there and then bumped into the cold air. It’s been a snowy winter,” says Phillips.

The average daily mean temperature last month was -19.2.

That’s a full six degrees colder than normal.

Phillips also says five of those cold days were below -30.

He’s predicting that March will be a snowy one, and to keep shovels and snow brushes handy for the foreseeable future.
