Tikinagan Child and Family Services recognized the ‘Forget Me Not’ campaign this past weekend.
Rachel Tinney is the Associate Executive Director and says the initiative is aimed at bringing renewed attention to the accomplishments and challenges of children and youth in the Ontario child welfare system.
“There has been a lot of disconnect between youth and their communities or their heritage and culture. So we want to talk about reconnection and how important it is to have someone that you know going into adulthood that you know you can call upon.”
Tinney adds the voices of our youth across the region are so important and we need to support them by listening.
Tikinagan officials say the #ForgetMeNot campaign is about sharing the stories of young people with experience in the system and reminding community, government, and service providers that these young people continue to need critical supports.
The agency partnered with Kenora and Rainy-River Child and Family Services this year to mark the occasion.
