Major Expansion Of Dryden Seniors Centre

The Dryden Go-Getters Seniors Centre is about to receive a major facelift.

A 2,500 square foot expansion is planned thanks to provincial and federal funding.

Judy Crigger says the upstairs will have two seating areas, an area to dance and a separate space to eat, along with a stage for entertainment.

Crigger says a full basement will have a meeting area, board room, library, and a coffee room.

There will also be a games room with carpet bowling, floor curling and a pool table.

Crigger adds there will be enough space to rent out the facility to other community groups.

She says with the expansion the Centre will be able to accommodate more Seniors in Dryden.

“We have about 500 members and we seem to be getting more. The idea is we can’t have everyone in here for activities or even for our functions and events so we’ll be able to have more here.”

Crigger says the project was the dream of one former member.

“Former President Jack Nesbitt worked so hard to get the submission in before he left the board. But he knew that we got the funding and he knew that he was going to be here to break ground with me today but Jack passed away last Fall.”

Construction is expected to begin shortly.
