Ontario students elected a NDP majority government in a province-wide student vote.
The program prepares our youth for future elections and helps them learn more about government and democracy.
More than 250,000 elementary and secondary schools participated this year and the NDP took 28.6% of the popular vote with 75 seats.
The Liberals would form the official opposition with 28 seats (22.0% support), while the PC’s took 18.7% of the popular vote and finished with 17 seats.
The Green Party took 16% of the popular vote and won 4 seats.
Locally, nine of 18 registered schools in the Kenora-Rainy River riding participated with 603 ballots cast and incumbent Greg Rickford was declared the winner.
Students also selected Sol Mamakwa in Kiiwetinoong with 7 schools involved and 399 votes cast.
