Two students are graduating this month from the Community Integration through Co-operative Education Program offered by Confederation College in Dryden.
Integration Facilitator Maria Nelson says the two year course is designed for individuals with a wide variety of learning needs.
Nelson says the program provides academic and life skills needed to pursue successful employment or a career after college.
She says, “Students participate in weekly group and individual tutoring sessions on campus with the Integration Facilitator. Part of my role as the facilitator is to assist students with note taking, staying on track and test prep.”
Nelson notes, “Along the way students have supportive learning specialists and tutors including in-class support if needed. As well as follow-up study skills, test preparation and delivery.”
She adds, “Not only do the students attend classes specifically designed for the program, but they also attend mainstream courses alongside students from other programs. In the two years in this program most students not only find success academically, but they learn how to overcome their specific challenges so they can succeed after college as well.”
Courses include skills for life, writing for success and personal and professional growth.
Nelson notes the program also provides supervised job placements in the second, third and final semester.
She stresses students quickly take to this program and enjoy learning thanks in part to the support provided.
This was the third intake offered by Confederation College in Dryden and 7 students have graduated over the last 6 years.
Spots are now open for the fall intake and for more information email Maria Nelson at mnelson2@confederationcollege.ca or call 223-3035.
