One municipal leader has said enough is enough, action is needed now to secure physicians for Northern Ontario.
Hospitals across the region have threatened Emergency Department closures this summer due to a shortage of staff.
Red Lake Mayor Fred Mota stresses this is not a localized problem.
“Dryden, Kenora, Sioux Lookout, all other areas within Northwestern Ontario. It’s time that we sit down with the Ministry of Health and figure out what the issues are, get to them and then come up with some solutions to these problems.”
Mota says every community should have access to 24 hour emergency care.
He adds, “We need to sit down. We need to respectfully look for our action now with sustainable results. It’s only going to get worse if we don’t come to the table and talk about our problems, our issues, our concerns and come up with solutions.”
Mota says he’s reached out to various Ministry of Health officials but has never received a response.
