The Natural Resources Critic for the NDP says he’s not going to knock the Ministry for actually recognizing there was a problem with snow clearing in northern Ontario last winter.
John Vanthof says the province is giving contractors more money and that will result in 42-additional snowplows in northern Ontario.
The Ministry of Transportation and selected contractors were flooded with complaints in the north last winter about snow clearing on area highways.
Vanthof notes he took those complaints directly to the MTO and believes the move paid off.
He’s stressing that snowplows should be deployed on secondary highways along with the major highways like 17.
