A New Provider for Recreation Grant Program

Two groups have stepped forward to take over the Universal Recreation program from the Mayor’s Committee for Children and Youth.
The initative was run for the last 13-years by Barb Buffet, Lynn Carslon and Susan Schultz.
Dryden Neighbourhood Legacy and the City will now handle grants to help local youth and families participate in organized sports and activities.
MacKinnon says thousands of children and familes were assisted over that period of time with everything from music lessons to hockey registration.
MacKinnon stresses they will make every effot to ensure that children and youth aren’t left standing outside of an activity because of their family’s financial situation.
The City will coordinate the program as well as provide financial and clerical in kind support.
The main access point will be located at 45 King Street and open on Friday’s from 8:30 to 4:30.
