A Return Of Curling In Dryden Still Possible

There is still the potential of curling coming back to Dryden.

The Rink #2-curling sheet conversion is still on the table and Community and Development Services Manager Bob Cunningham says they have applied for $30,000 in funding from the Ministry of Tourism.

Cunningham says he hasn’t heard an answer and is hoping for one before June so they can begin work.

Taxpayers would be on the hook for $3,000.

The early idea is to convert Rink #2 to curling one day or night a week.

A staff report indicates it would take up to one-and-a-half hours to convert between ice and a curling rink.

There have been questions why curling wouldn’t start back up at Eagles Landing.

Officials stress they don’t own the curling rink and note it would be extremely costly to get the ice plant up to national standards.
