The Federal government says a Thunder Bay contractor seeking payment for fixing Kashechewan homes more than two years ago will have to work it out with the First Nation.
The Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs says they provided the community $2.78-million in 2013 for flood relief work and it’s up to them to hire and pay contractors.
They add if the First Nation chose to expand operations without the Ministry’s O.K., those costs would be borne by them and not Aboriginal Affairs.
Bur-met Northern Ltd is suing Aboriginal Affairs because they still haven’t collected payment for the work.
