A new deal has been reached to improve the well-being of community members in Kashechewan First Nation.
The remote northern community of 2,300 has signed a Framework Agreement with the Governments of Canada and Ontario to provide a more sustainable future.
The feature point in the deal is the consideration of options for the relocation of the community that is prone to flooding.
The agreement also includes the development of an action plan to address several issues including housing, socio-economic sustainability, health care, infrastructure as well as school and community facilities.
A multiple-party steering committee has been established to provide annual updates on the progress being made under the deal.
