The Northwestern Ontario Director of Local Food for
Local People spoke to the Federal Agricultural Commitee
recently.
Emo Resident Kim Jo Bliss says they outlined the need
for a federally licenced Abbatoir in the region, which
would allow area farmers to sell outside of the province.
Bliss says there’s a real concern because after this
September, the Provincial abbatoir in Dryden will no
longer be accepting their cows.

Bliss would also like to see national legislation for
meat inspection that would eliminate provincial barriers.
Bliss says they expect to hear back soon from
Agricultural Commitee Chair and Thunder Bay Rainy River MP
Ken Boshcoff.
