The Deputy Grand Chief of the Nishnwabe-Aski Nation is calling on
exploration and mining companies to meet basic operating standards inside
NAN territory.
Alvin Fiddler unveiled a long list of standards at a major mining
conference in New York City Monday.
Topping the list was the need for diamond exploration and mining
companies to consult and accommodate Northern First Nations prior to
exploration.
Fiddler stressed there needs to be meaningful dialogue regarding
aboriginal and treaty rights.
