A first of its kind in the province.
The Ontario Power Authority and First Nations Engineering Services have announced the launch of the “saveONenergy Aboriginal Conservation Program”.
Director of First Nations and Métis Relations with the OPA Hilary Thatcher says the purpose of the program is to provide the communities with better access to conservation programs which will help them conserve electricity.
The program is also expected to create up to 30 jobs in the selected communities.
Thatcher encourages all First Nations in the region to apply for the program, and then they will evaluate the communities.
In the first year of the program, eight communities including two remote ones will be selected and in the second year 16 communities will be able to take part.
