The Animal Alliance of Canada can’t bear a proposed expansion of a spring bear hunt in Ontario.
The province has pointed to human-wildlife conflicts as one reason to bring back the controversial pilot.
But Director Liz White says black bears wander into the city for a variety of reasons, namely food crop failures.
White says killing bears didn’t solve the problem before the spring hunt was cancelled in 1999 and it won’t solve the problem now.
She adds, after years of neglect, the Ministry of Natural Resources needs more funding to find a permanent solution.
