An animal activist group is calling for the end of the Spring Bear Hunt Pilot Project.
Animal Alliance of Canada Spokesperson Liz White says they know the hunt doesn’t help stop nuisance bear conflicts in northern communities.
The two year pilot project ends today (Monday) and White hopes Minister Bill Mauro will let the spring bear hunt die and not more bears.
White says people are offended with the shooting of bears and notes some bait the animals by setting up garbage piles.
She notes municipalities should be taking an active role to reduce bear-human encounters.
