Another Blockade

Another blockade has been set up by protestors, this time on the
English River Road, about 75-kilometres North of Kenora.
Members of the Grassy Narrows First Nation have teamed up with the
Rainforest Action Network to protest clear cuts on aboriginal land.
Organizer Brant Olson says they’re taking a stand against Weyerhaeuser
and Abitibi operations.
Olson says Grassy Narrows should be able to have more say on clear
cutting operations on their traditional land.
Protesters have hauled logs from the bush to block off the logging
road, however they are letting regular traffic through.
The blockade is expected to be up for the next few days.
Earlier this month, 9-people were arrested at a similar blockade on
Highway 17a.
Abitibi and Weyerhaeuser say they are following regulations set out
by the Province.
