There are renewed calls for an inquest into the death of a 14-year-old Grassy Narrows First Nations girl.
It was one year ago Monday when the body of Azraya Ackabee-Kokopenace was found in a wooded area in Kenora.
She was last seen walking away from the Lake of the Woods Hospital, where she was dropped off by Provincial Police.
Family and friends are disappointed the Coroner hasn’t declared a cause of death and they want answers.
They are backed by Grand Council Treaty Three in calling for a full inquest into her death as well as responsibilities of child welfare agencies, police, and the hospital.
The probe would seek recommendations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
