Appeal From Premier; Local Meetings Today

Premier McGuinty says teachers should not put students in the middle of their fight with his Liberal government.
McGuinty is appealing to teachers not to withdraw from extracurricular activities because they’re angry with the government
for imposing a new contract and taking away their right to strike.
The premier says teacher-supervised activities outside the classroom are important to students and their families.
McGuinty admits teachers and the government have hit what he calls “a bit of a rough patch,” but says he can’t accept any
decision by teachers to stop supervising clubs and teams after class.
Union meetings with local High School teachers are taking place this afternoon to discuss the next course of action.
Football practice at Dryden High School will continue with non-staff coaches leading the session.
