Area Curlers Ready To Raise Money For Good Cause

For the first time in its seven year history, the Bearskin Classic ‘Skip to Equip’ will start on a Thursday.

That’s because organizers have lined up a record 30-teams and 127-female curlers for the charity Bonspiel.

Committee Member Dayna Wellock was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show Wednesday and she says they are raising money for the Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre.

Wellock says the funds will be earmarked for a C-Arm Diagnostic Imaging Machine.

She says they send about 80-patients, accompanied by a nurse to Winnipeg, stressing they want to keep local residents here at home for treatment.

Since the beginning of the event, more than $380,000 has been raised to improve health services in Sioux Lookout and northwestern Ontario.

The single year record is $155,000.

Wellock says the four day event features a raffle, silent auction, penny auction and 50/50 draws.

Prizes include four Winnipeg Jets tickets with airfare provided by Bearskin Airlines, a three day-three night fishing trip and $2,500 cash.

The public is urged to attend and watch and draw times are as followed:

Friday: Draw #1 starts at 2:30pm; Final draw starts at 8:30pm
Saturday: Draw #1 starts at 8:00am; Final draw starts at 9:30pm
Sunday: Draw #1 starts at 9:30am; Final draw starts at 2:00pm
