The chief of the Saugeen Nation, north of Ignace, is upset with
herbicide spraying in area forests and wants 1-billion dollars in
compensation from all levels of government.
Chief Edward Machimity says chemical spraying has an impact on the
long-term health of wildlife and humans living in the boreal forest.
He has sent a letter to Natural Resources Minister David Ramsay
outlining the band’s concerns with spraying in Bowater’s Caribou
Forest management area north of the C-N Rail tracks.
A Ministry spokesman says their Sioux Lookout office is willing to talk
about the areas of concern.
