As Expected, It Was A Quiet Fire Season!

2008 is going into the books as one of the quietest fire seasons on record.
The fire season officially wrapped up at the end of October and figures compiled by the MNR show that there were just 218 forest fires reported in the Northwest region.
Information Officer Debbie McLean says that’s well below their seasonal average.
McLean says there was just over 1,200 hectares of land burned in Northwestern Ontario, which is also well below normal.
She notes there hasn’t been a year with this level of fire activity in over 50 years.
