Atikokan is trying to deal with the recent downsizing at Proboard and Atikokan Forest Products.
A Labour Adjustment Committee is now in place in the Town and Mayor Dennis Brown says they are trying to help affected workers get back on their feet.
Brown says a coordinator will be hired to help those in need but he is hoping that this is only a temporary measure.
Brown is optimistic Proboard will be back up and running early in the new year.
An Action Centre will also open in January at the Voyageur Mall.
