Sioux Narrows Temporary Bridge Opens

The Ministry of Transportation has lifted load restrictions on the Sioux Narrows Bridge on Highway 71.

A new sinlge lane temporary bridge opened over the weekend, about 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

It will be in place until a permanent structure is built.

Safety concerns restricted the old bridge to 15 tonnes in September which has meant a lengthy detour for loggers and cattle haulers.

MTO Spokesperson Larry Lambert says engineering design work is underway to rebuild the old bridge.

Lambert says the earliest start date of construction is Summer 2004 with a completion date of Winter 2005.
