Despite a decline in revenue, Atikokan Council has managed to keep the tax rate down.
Ratepayers will be paying just under 1% more in Municipal taxes this year.
Mayor Dennis Brown says they balanced the books by cutting operating expenditures by .54%.
Brown says unionized and non-unionized employees were flexible with contract negotiations and insurance rates declined considerably.
Brown notes the budget also includes no cuts in services and full-time staff and includes room to hire more temporary labourers.
He adds the capital budget is as high as it’s ever been in Atikokan with nearly $17-million worth of work planned.
Projects include a new Town Hall, Main Street rehabilitation, resurfacing of the Airport runway and upgrades to the Water Distribution system.
