Atikokan Mayor Pleased With Provincial Commitment To Save Pellet Plant

The mayor of Atikokan is ecstatic with the provincial government helping open Rentech’s pellet plant.
The government is providing the company with $1-million for the operation.
Dennis Brown says it’s creating new employment in his community with the introduction of roughly 45-jobs.
Brown adds the town’s gamble to protect the facility when it closed several years ago is now paying off.
He says the plant was scheduled to be torn down but Council decided to keep paying the hydro and heat.
The plant is producing pellets for Ontario Power Generation’s biomass plant in Atikokan.
The facility expects to be in full production within the next six to twelve months.
