Atikokan mayor worried about coal plants

With political parties calling for the phase out of coal fired plants, Atikokan mayor Dennis Brown is not pleased.

Brown says the leaders have to be more in favour of bringing in “clean coal” to these plants including the one in Atikokan which has a major impact on his town…

Brown referred to the 100 good paying jobs that would be lost in the community.

He added with the closure of the Atikokan and Thunder Bay plants, that would be a loss of about 500 megawats of electricity that wouldn’t be replaced.

Brown stressed that would detrimental to bringing in more economic development, including new mines.
